Michael’s grandfather, father and uncles, all antique silver traders, conducted their business around the Pall Mall Safe Deposits and the Bond Street silver galleries in London. With such a background, it was a natural step for Michael to become involved in precious metals himself.
When aged just 17, Michael would get the train from London to Brighton to make rounds of the shops and antique markets buying silver and scrap precious metals that he would then resell in London.
This fascination grew, and set the foundations for his eventual move to Brighton. In 1970, he opened his first buying office in a garret above a dealer’s warehouse.
