06/08/18The Michael Bloomstein Prize 2017

< Back

The Michael Bloomstein Prize was established in 2004 in association with the University of Brighton metal department.

A keen maker himself, since 2004 Michael Bloomstein has supported young, local talent by awarding prizes to graduates of the metal departments at both the University of Brighton and Plumpton College.

Each year the work exhibited is of a high standard and reflects credit on the students and teachers of the University of Brighton.

The Michael Bloomstein Silver Award is presented to a promising graduate each year from each educational institution. It consists of a prize and a gift of silver for use in a project.

Cynthia Cousens, senior lecturer at University of Brighton, describes the donation of silver as ‘instrumental in introducing the student to silver and establishing their confidence in using it.’

Cath Laffan, tutor at Plumpton College, adds ‘Michael Bloomstein’s continuing support of Plumpton College helps to create an environment geared towards success for our young and aspiring jewellers.’

“The sponsorship is very important to us – the gift of silver for the project is instrumental in introducing the students to silver and establishing their confidence in using it and the prize helps them when they graduate to move into a professional life using silver.”
